CPD requirements for midwives
What the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia's CPD registration standard asks of a midwife with general registration, and how VitalCPD keeps your records ready for an audit.
What the Board requires
- At least 20 h of CPD each registration year (this one: 1 Jun 2026 – 31 May 2027).
- Your records must show your learning needs, plan, participation and reflection.
- If you're also a registered nurse, you need CPD for both. Activities relevant to both can count for both.
Endorsements and notations
- Eligible midwife notation: an extra 10 h, on context of practice, prescribing, diagnostics, consultation and referral. Holding more than one of these adds the hours once.
- Scheduled medicines (midwife): an extra 10 h, on context of practice, prescribing, diagnostics, consultation and referral. Holding more than one of these adds the hours once.
Registered part-way through the year? Your hours may be less (pro-rata). Work out your own hours.
